Motor Vehicle Accidents: Your No-Fault Claim

As far as auto accidents go, many people know that Minnesota is a  “no-fault”  state.  But what does that mean, exactly?  Under Minnesota law, all motor vehicle owners are required to maintain no-fault insurance, in addition to liability insurance, on their vehicle(s)—this excludes motorcycles, which only require liability insurance. A no-fault insurance policy provides for “basic economic loss benefits.”

Many people,  at some point in their lives,  end up having to deal with a personal injury claim.  These can result from a variety of unpleasant occurrences, including dog bites, medical malpractice issues, product liability and premises liability mishaps, injuries sustained in relation to motor vehicle accidents, and even wrongful deaths. The most common payment arrangement for representation of an individual who sustains a personal injury is a contingent fee. Generally speaking, a contingent fee is any fee for services provided, where the fee is payable only if there is a favorable result.

Collection Agency or Law Firm: Which Should I Use First?

This is a question that every credit person asks from time to time. The answer lies in understanding two factors:  the type and amount of the receivable and the strengths and capabilities of the person you hire.

Collection agencies use special software and automated phone systems to systematically make calls and send letters requesting payment. This approach can be successful particularly when the dollar amount of the receivable is low and the number of transactions high. However, there are other instances in which having a law firm handling the receivable at the outset is prudent.
